The ONLY thing that matters in Leadership

humiity

Jack Welch, the famous and successful CEO of General Electric, once stated that a business leader would be lucky if 60 per cent of their decisions were correct. Humility helps keep leaders from doing harm to themselves. “Faithful are the wounds of a friend,” says the book of Proverbs, “but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” Humble leaders will not only seek out friendly wounds but also enable and encourage their friends to wound them. Humility, therefore, keeps a leader in check and their mission intact.

Humility also allows a leader to be self-reflective. Whether because of natural personality or deliberate training, all successful leaders reflect regularly on themselves – their successes and failures, their strengths and weaknesses.…

No One Wins Alone

I read this today and it really resonated with some situations’ I am currently facing.  It was taken from an article written by Peter Guber,  CEO, Mandalay Entertainment, Owner Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Dodgers, #1 NYT Bestselling Author, Tell to Win.  Enjoy!

——————————————–

In today’s highly competitive and exhilarating atmosphere of change, a leader can’t win alone. Great organizations triumph behind strategic leaders who use their “power” to ignite their team’s passion and purpose to perform at their highest potential to create long term competitive advantage.   “Power” is not volume, masculinity, or intimidation, but a voice that is heard and heeded. When a leader’s authentic energy aligns with her company’s vision, it can strategically draw the troops to a mission, empowering them to overcome challenges, become evangelizers for the process, and achieve the success for themselves and the enterprise.

Contempt Prior to Investigation #2

“There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance—that principle is contempt prior to investigation.”— Herbert Spencer

This quote and concept speaks to the very heart of human nature and ultimately to the struggle between the bondage of ignorance and the freedom of enlightenment.

There are many who seem to fall victim to the ‘contempt prior to investigation’ principle, especially when it comes to the very topics which may hold the key to understanding many of the social and political problems we face today.  For example, I truly believe that the vast majority of American’s who vote, shouldn’t! …

Contempt Prior to Investigation #1

So here we go.  The first in a series of posts I will be doing on this deep and powerful subject.

So why is it, that most people have preconceived ideas about practically everything that they don’t have prior experience with?  Human nature being what it is,  I guess the short answer is most likely fear or the moving out of one’s “comfort zone”. Whatever the answer, let us agree that a closed or clouded mind is tainted and an obstruction to understanding, self-improvement, or actualization.  The statement posed in this post title and the concept I am emphasizing is the need for a specific mindset to experience new and unique things as well as growing spiritually.…

10 Secrets of Becoming a Successful – (fill in the blank) –

I’ve been in software sales most of my adult life and have had some success along the way. Early in my career I really thought that the breakout success I was looking for would come from innovative, “out of the box” techniques and new, ground breaking ideas. I really struggled in those early years and I didn’t really understand why. I thought that if I found that silver bullet that no one had thought of before me that I would be off and running and “set of life”. So I worked VERY hard on finding that secret sauce. Over the years I began to experience incremental success but it didn’t come in one big pop.…

How to Change Your Life: A User’s Guide

‘You will never change your life until you change something you do daily.’ ~Mike Murdock

By Leo Babauta

Start with a simple statement: what do you want to be?

Are you hoping to someday be a writer, a musician, a designer, a programmer, a polyglot, a carpenter, a manga artist, an entrepreneur, an expert at something?

How do you get there? Do you write your intention on a piece of paper, and put it in a bottle and launch it to sea, hoping it will manifest? No. The universe isn’t going to make this happen. You are.

Do you set yourself a big goal to complete by the end of the year, or in three months?…

What is it about the human condition?

What I find utterly amazing is the fact that we get so wrapped up in things that really don’t matter sometimes that we fail to recognize what is great.  You know how it is, the job is frustrating, taxes are due, it rains right after you wash and detail the car, a favorite sports team loses a big game, someone said something that pissed you off.  Maybe it’s that you are under the weather, or the hot water heater failed and needs to be replaced. How about family fights, or there isn’t enough money to take the dream vacation.  We all face these things every day and if you are like most of us, you get down. …

Random Thoughts

You know what amazes me everyday? How many truly stupid, yes I said stupid people we have in this country that claim to be educated. My following comments have nothing to do with one political party or the other, just the facts.

I can’t believe how blind Americas are to Obama’s real agenda. He doesn’t care about the country’s debt, safety (defense), economic landscape, or even abiding by the constitution. His main agenda is to destroy the Republican Party and drive social and economic wedges into the culture of the country. He wants as many American’s dependent on the Government as possible to drive his socialist agenda. He didn’t care about the “fiscal cliff” or the “sequester”.…
